Snedeker snubbed, people pissed

By now, you know that Joe Snedeker did not get his 30 seconds of fame on ABC's "Good Morning America," as originally planned. WNEP's resident weather clown, who is biking across the northeast to raise money for a Scranton hospital, was scheduled to appear on the show Friday morning to discuss his charity ride. No dice, though.

Predictably, the bored housewives and yammering morons on Talkback 16 got upset, and WNEP webmaster Mark Sowers even jumped in with contact information for "Good Morning America." Comments range from "I'LL NEVER WATCH GMA AGAIN OMG GO JOE" to "SHAME SHAME SHAME DISLOYALTY BLAH BLAH."

The funny thing about television news is that even the most well-laid-out plans will collapse at a moment's notice. Just ask any harried producer who had to re-stack their rundown because of a reporter's package not making it on time, or a problem with a live shot, or some major story that just happened. It can be for any reason. And while I didn't see "Good Morning America" yesterday - I'm not one for morning news/fluff programs - I'm sure there was a reason why Snedeker didn't get to expose his brand of humor to the American public.

As for the the people sending those frothing-at-the-mouth e-mails to ABC, save yourself a few keystrokes.

I watched the entire hour of GMA (yes I need a life). They had a chef on for 7 minutes talking about cooking for a NASCAR tailgate barbecue. Their weather guy stayed in a tethered hot air balloon the whole time.

I understand that breaking news can interrupt well-laid plans... but there was NOTHING during the hour that should have provided at least a 10 second mention.

What you don't understand is that much time was spent featuring hot air balloons and a cooking segment. Surely they could have added Joe to either segment for 30 seconds. It's not a "snedeker snub" outraging viewers but rather their lack of concern for the charitible nature of this ride. It could have been a boost to their ratings to show an affiliate employee working so hard to help sick children. THAT is what angers viewers. Sorry, too much fluff that day. NO EXCUSE.

I'm kinda curious how long this had been in the works and why it didn't happen, but I'm not writing GMA to complain. I just think it makes ABC News look quite disorganized when a local affiliate is (for quite some time, I suspect) expecting :30 to :60 to give props to a good cause and then doesn't.

16's nothing more than a friggin' cult anymore.

Now THIS is news. Real news! For ONCE, WNEP-TV did NOT get their way when it came to some sort of event leading to high-profile self-promotion. How does it feel when the best laid plans fall apart?

I'm not sure, but I think the GMA producer made that call from her kitchen. It IS a woman's prerogative to change her mind.
See, she couldn't find any shoes to wear, which BTW is just how Joe likes 'em.
Just a helluva day for a gal eight months along.

Poor guy!

Hello?

The affliate is in a number -- is it 53 now? -- market.

It's not like it's a top 10 or even a top 25.

In addition, while yes it is a great cause - it's a LOCAL cause. L-O-C-A-L.

And I'm sorry, but while it is greatly important and helpful to the area, far more people are going to be interested in a NASCAR tailgate barbecue, than a random weather guy from an affiliate people never heard of, raising money for a place they've never heard of.

Maybe that's harsh, but that TV. Gotta get the audience.

"Best laid plans?" I'm not sure.

Seems WNEP made a promise to viewers without having a rock-solid guarantee from "Good Morning America."

St. Joe's is a wonderful cause. I hope everyone involved remembers the cause, not the controversy. I hope face-time for Joe wasn't the ultimate goal.

A lot of the posters on "Talkback" make us sound like a bunch of hay-nahs.

Why shouldn't they get a chance to froth at the mouth (and keyboard)? SaySo is long gone. Besides what else would they do? Go therapy shopping at Circuit City? Maybe buy some bathroom accessories at the chain store? Stare at the asphalt in front of the Lowe's store?

Don't overlook that this has gotten WNEP back on the "front page" after Nexstar had been grabbing headlines(although negatively)for the last couple weeks.

Even here with Bealsie; if GMA did what they were supposed to do, this whole thing wouldn't be here...

I'd be interested to know what kind of plans were made. Everyone is ready to blast GMA for snubbing Joe. What work was done to actually get a spot? If you think about it...a :30 segment doesn't usually play in that morning format

Wow- this comment is disturbing:

I just think it makes ABC News look quite disorganized

DISORGANIZED>>>>>>>>>>>> "Kim's off today"..."Kim's off today"...."Kim's off today".....get sick of that crap too.....I hate WNEP weekdays News crew- Snedeker is an ass.....I am sure ABC allowed some summer intern from Long Island to view his weather reports for a month....and allow her/him to report her findings back to the producers of GMA who said "Screw it......we don't need this asshole on our show...."
When are the truly dense people of NEPA going to realize.....WNEP sucks eggs!!!! BTW- Kim, do what the great Joe suggested and stay home and raise your brats.......
also BTW- St Joe's has been around a long time.....the festival does not belong to WNEP.
Also- if Snedeker, Supon, Wiliams (Herman Munster), Burke, the incredible weather team of Clark & Clark, all donated 10% of their salaries......there would be no need for a festival.........

Life's tough. Get a helmet. Snedeker got bumped and I checked Talkback and there are hundreds of comments. It's sad really. Disappointing to some but would it have made a difference to St. Joe's? Don't know. If it would have, then it is too bad. But these people are foaming at the mouth. It's sad to see so many people who have to cling to something "bigger" than themselves and who see this as an opportunity to defend that big thing. It's akin to rabid sports fans. Empty lives I think.

I'm afraid WNEP has finally crossed the line.

It's obvious the ride weasn't really FOR St. Joseph's Center, it was ABOUT "St. Joe Snedeker."

I know, I know: "look at all the good he did." For whom?

I agree with an earlier poster. WNEP apparently lead people to believe Joe would defintely be on GMA, or at least that is what people assumed. The WNEP masterminds (sales, promotions, news, whatever) never had a definite rock-solid scheduled appearance locked in with the producers at GMA..and I believe during one "promo" Joe said he "hoped" to be on GMA. And yes, Joe is just a local weather guy...the whole world outside NEPA could care less if he was on. There are folks who would have much rather seen a NASCAR BB-Q than him. SORRY!!!!!

Too freakin' bad that Joe didn't get on Good Morning America. Cry me a freakin' river. Who cares anyway? The guy is a blubbering twit on the air. I could never stand watching him. I want the weather, and not a circus act. Tom and Noreen bore the hell out of me, but at least I get the weather from them. Also, I wish they would tell Noreen to stop saying "from the Backyard" so much. It seems that every other word she says is "Backyard."

I get the biggest laugh out of all the WNEP yes-men and buttkissers around here. There is not one of you qualified enough to dictate how ABC should run their broadcasts. Outside of that, have any of you experts ever heard of a TECHNICAL PROBLEM ? Apparantly not. Technical meltdowns can happen to any station, anytime.

And come off your high-horses with WNEP's "great charity work". This website turned a cold shoulder on WYOU's CMN work last June. What's good for the goose is certainly good for the gander.

If it was intentional, then it sure seems likely a producer took a look at the big picture and figured this guy on a bike didn't have broad appeal, neither did the charity involved. No one in, say, Michigan, would give a good crap. Sorry, but those are the hard facts, regardless of how you feel about this guy.

If you want to talk about telethons, how about we get it right out here in the open that many stations make a boatload of money on telethons. In this market, the only individuals not making money are talent. Production people all get paid, as does any and everyone back at the station switching the show. In a good many other(bigger)markets, talent does get paid. If the station carrying the telethon gets paid, everyone involved should get a piece of it. Make-A-Wish used to pony up roughly 25K for a ten hour telethon on WBRE. How much do you suppose CMN pays WYOU?

What so many of you say is true. Don't get me wrong, after living here over 20 years I still don't like 16. Why do I feel like they talk down to everyone....because they do. Well, I guess a bunch of idiots keep watching and thinking they are the "word" from the mount.
Now don't get me wrong I think the money raised is great and will help many childeren..that is a good thing.
The bad thing was having to listen to Don Jacobs...this guy is the #1 butthead. You mean they didn't have anyone better than him to send there. This guy is in no way an asset to 16. He just "sucks."
It was like watching a car accident. You don't want to see it, but you can't turn away.
I guess he must high up on the "family" tree. (family, that's a laugh).
I thank you.

So where's the official explanation?

And to think, it wasn't too long ago that the heynas were all writing "I'll never watch that big, bad meanie Joe Snedeker ever, ever again" after his dustup with Supon. Some of them even knew how to spell Snedeker.

Now? "How did he get passed over for Pope?"

Don Jacobs? He already has a career baiting deer for his TV shootout.

The bad thing was having to listen to Don Jacobs...

Donny's not a bad guy at all. If you haven't figured this one out, here's a little assistance - WNEP needed someone to replace Uncle Reverend Frank when they fired him. Don fits the bill. Bald/balding, a bit overweight, non-threatening, looks like the nice up the block, sounds like that same nice guy up the block, blah, blah, blah. They were casting to type, Donny was the type. Plain and simple, that's it...

On WNEP's home page, there is a video link to 'Joe Snedeker on Good Morning America'. Evidently GMA did a small piece during their 8:30 news summary on Monday, which included WNEP shots of him arriving at the festival and shots of St. Joseph's, and a 'good job' from the anchor.

What they failed to mention was that he was in their audience, and background on camera on Friday waiting to get on, and that he was 'snubbed.'

From the beginning Good Morning America let WNEP know that it was a LONGGG shot that they'd have Snedeker on Friday morning. WNEP misled viewers by playing it up as they did. They knew his appearing was possible but very unlikely. Only after enough bleating from the sheeple did Good Morning America acquiesce and give Snedeker 20 seconds Monday morning just to stem the bothersome blip of e-mails.

This is fact.
