Former WYOU reporter Phil Yacuboski has been hired as a writer for Scranton's Electric City. He's also done some work for them in the past.A reader also swears to have heard Yacuboski reading the news on an area radio station this week. Is true, perhaps that non-compete clause from Nexstar is no longer an issue?

I love the electric city cover story he did on Sno Cove's big opening. Did he even go up to look at the site to see that it's all dirt and nothing more!! Dear Phil, you are no longer stuck behind an anchor's desk or in front of a camera reading copy. Go out and work the field.

ReplyDeleteCan someone, anyone, explain just what in hell Phil went to court over regarding his no-compete? He didn't have a job offer from any competition, what was the point? Was their a point? Was he simply trying to make a statement?

Phil has to earn a living, just like we all do. We all do what we need to survive. If anyone knows that, journalists do!
I've known Phil since he was an intern. The guy has a passion for the industry, and I wish him well. Too many people in TV News are too busy crying about how much better they should be treated -- when they don't know how well they've got it!!!

Yup, Phil Yacuboski can be heard reading the news for Magic 93, for the morning show.
ReplyDeleteLoved his cover story on the "impending" grand opening of Sno Cove waterslide park at Montage. Did he even bother to take a look at the place -- it's still all dirt and from what I read in the Times-Tribune's Borys Krawciniuk article, it's not even opening this summer!!! Phil, to be a print reporter, you actually have to leave the building on assignments.

From the responses to this news, it seems nobody really cares about Phil or the Electric City newsless newspaper. I think Phil himself wrote the first response to this thread anyway. Hey Phil, where are the personal attacks? Where? Show them to me. I don't see any. **rolls eyes**

I worked with Phil at channel 50. He complained a lot. He refused to go to a fire in Scranton despite being three blocks away doing a story on Easter flowers. He also refused to do a story in Pike County and missing money from a state grant designated to build an outside theater.
Didn't Phil walk away and abadone his photographer shooting a body found in the Lackawanna River. I believe a police officer told them to move back despite them not being across the yellow police tape?
The story of how 'ole Phil abandoned his photographer while the photog got arrested for LEGALLY shooting a drowning scene from a bridge is legendary!!!
ReplyDeletePhil basically left the photog high and dry to fight a first-amendment battle with the (rookie) officer over where he could stand and shoot video. Video clearly shows no police tape up around bridge. Photog gets arrested..NO PHIL TO BE FOUND!! (He did come back later to get camera.)
Other media heard Phil telling the officer how he felt the photog "should have gotten off the bridge". Word is the powers that be at 50 wanted to can him...but the very same photog Phil burned put in a good word for him.
Hey Phil, that photog you abandoned had the guts to fight his case in court and WIN (legally and civally)!!! "GUTS", YOU NEVER HAD THEM AND NEVER WILL!!!

ReplyDeleteCorrect. And the photog was arrested. Subsequently, he sued the City of Scranton and WON. His litigation, sad to say, was just that, his litigation. That gutless and immoral outfit on S. Franklin abandoned him, so he had to go it alone.

ReplyDeletePhil wasn't hired by Electric City. They give him one story every once in a while. He's a stringer. You guys are late. He has written several stories in the past year. They're all on the paper's Web site.

I saw the tape of the Photog being arrested... he rolled tape on his own arrest. Very clever. When he was in the back of the vehicle, the policeman asked if he was covering the story alone, the shooter said no. The policeman asked who his reporter was, wanting a name... you could hear the sigh in the background, before the photographer said "Phil Yacuboski" with a tone of helplessness in his voice.
