WNEP wants you to know...

So, did you hear that WNEP anchors Julie Sidoni and Scott Schaeffer are getting married? What, you didn't? Then you surely missed the exciting discussion on Talkback 16, where the chatterboxes begin speculating as soon as a viewer noticed Sidoni wearing an engagement ring. Eventually, someone pegged Schaeffer as the husband-to-be.

I'm calling hypocrisy here, on both WNEP and webmaster/Talkback 16 moderator Mark Sowers. Why? Have a look at Talkback 16's FAQ (emphasis mine):

Could you mention what former 16 personalities are now doing?

Many former employees of WNEP-TV left because they no longer wanted to be in the public eye. Others left for personal reasons. WNEP-TV usually does not discuss what happened to them or where they went. We are trying to respect their privacy. We ask that you do the same.

So, WNEP doesn't want you talking about what people like David Pingalore, Lisa Champeau, or Tina Tenret are doing nowadays. But, feel free to talk about the pending wedding of Julie Sidoni and Scott Schaeffer! I think WNEP wants you to know about their soon-to-be husband-and-wife anchor team.

Lou Kirchen (Ed. Note: Kirchen is WNEP's general manager), if you're reading this blog, let me give you some free advice. Nobody cares. Just ask WBRE. They made a big fuss about Lyndall Stout's marriage, and look where that got them. Let's have some decency here, and keep Schaeffer and Sidoni's personal affairs off the airwaves.

("Where Are They Now?" will return next week.)

God, do I care about Sidoni marrying Schaeffer? I cannot wait to see where this thread goes.

If nothing else, we're talking a sort of May-December thing here, right? He's at least 12-14 years older than she is. Ya know, come to think of it, I wish them both nothing but good things.

So is this true? Julie and Scott? I guess that's good news. Just my luck another good looking lady getting married.

Mr. Sowers is a hyprocrite. As long as comments are made on the air then it's ok to blog about it. Meanwhile you won't say past WNEPers are working in different markets.

For shame

Geez, could you be any more jealous of WNEP, Howard?

How's that no-fraternization policy working out there?

I know of one highly capable reporter denied even an interview due to a matrimonial disqualification there.

And Schaffer is a complete turd anyway.

If the engagement news is accurate, WNEP'S management faces some decisions. The New York Times Company has policies against spouses working at the same location (unless they get married after they are hired) and then frowns upon spouses working in the same department. One spouse also can't have any supervisory role over the other.

As for Julie and Scott, I respect both of them and wish them well.

I love how some people respond to criticism by throwing out accusations of jealousy. Yes, I criticize WNEP because I'm jealous of them! I also criticize WBRE because I'm jealous of them! And WYOU? Yeah, I'm jealous of them too!

Allow me to beat the rush and barf now in advance of 16's inevitable publicity of this.

And had this happened two years ago it would have been Danielle Schlesier in the distaff role.

Wow, the guy is a plug. She's cute but must have some odd issues at play if she looks at him and sees anything but a liver-lipped, preening, overly dramatic, annoying vocal inflection, combover. I mean that in the nicest possible way of course.

I'm concerned you are on the fence about this...

Julie's is a real sweetheart -- I hope Scott treats her well -- she deserves it.
As far as the rumors I've heard over the years about Scott's philandering ways, maybe he's ready to settle down -- people can change, you know....

He strikes me as the type that the only thing he's ready to settle down with is a mirror.

Poor Sidoni. At least Schlesier got the heck out of dodge and away from Schaeffer before she was walking down the aisle.

Julie is 28 and Scott is 42 now I think. So yes there is major age difference.

Scott's philandering ways?
Please elaborate..
I'd really like to know.
