Supon leaving WNEP

WNEP morning anchorwoman Kim Supon has announced she's leaving the station. Supon, who joined WNEP in 1993, is leaving the station next month to spend more time with her children, one of whom was recently born.

What does it matter?

Here's another tip for ya: 16 will be laying off all part-time photographers.

So much for the "cash cow" theory.

Apparently she announced it Tuesday morning.

The "Talkback" web postings are already gushing. Imagine how lucky all of us have been to have basked in the reflected glow of a woman who combines the best attributes of Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc, Eleanor Roosevelt, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Amelia Earhart, Annie Oakley and Queen Mary (or was that Mary, Queen of Scots--I'll check the "Talkback" message board).

All that praise for a woman who just sits on her ass and reads.

In these days when family takes a back seat to everything else, it's refreshing to see a successful career woman put her family ahead of her career. Too many children grow up and are gone before their parents "find time" to get to know them. If you haven't really listened before, check out "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin. She's lucky to have a healthy family. And they're lucky to have a sensible, loving mom. Everybody wins!

Kim Supon made the announcement on this morning's newscast. It was also reported on an evening newscast in the "Talkback" segment.

"Kim Supon made the announcement on this morning's newscast."

But I like to sleep in! :)

Too bad it never happens.

Why'd she come back in the first place? I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she realized she couldn't hack it, but it seems fishy to return from maternity leave in mid-September, and announce your resignation two weeks later (to coincide with sweeps, I might add)

Say what you want, but Kim put up with that idiot Snedeker and his crass comments for a long time. Its nice to see that she is committing to her family.

"[C]heck out "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin."

Or, you could sing a verse or two of "My Husband's a Dentist and Makes Millions on Molars."

I think it's nice she's got the bucks to afford to stay home; but somehow I don't think that not getting up at 2:15 in the morning for a high-paying five-hour-a-day job counts as much of a sacrifice.

Snedeker told her she'd have to choose between motherhood and her career. Guess she did.

Well, some of us who are moms and are also in the news business don't have the luxury of being able to stay at home. Some of us need *two* incomes unfortunately to raise our children. And, in response to the poster at 9:47 pm, we moms who have to work do the best we can to spend as much time with our children -- we don't need snarky remarks like yours. Trust me, we have enough guilt !
We do the best we can.
It's sad we live in a society where, for the most part, both mom and dad have to work to provide for their families.
Sure, it's great that Kim can be a "stay at home mommy," but for many of us, that's only a pipe dream until we win the lottery.
While I"m lucky, in that the shifts that my husband and I work that our kids only need a few hours of care (maybe three hours, tops), I know that many moms and dads out there don't have a choice -- it's either starve, go without a roof over your head, or head to work and have your child in a quality day care.
I don't think my child (or my future child) will suffer because someone cared for them for a few hours while I worked hard to provide for them.

Doesn't look like anybody @ WNEP will be moving up the ladder to AM anchor spot. Their looking for someone completely new. Kim, you will be missed.

There is no doubt that Kim and the "team" have good chemistry.
BUT she's also is treated differently. There is NO other employee that comes in for a part time shift and leaves at 9:30 on the dot!

Bye. What a no talent. She was a poor reporter and an even worse "news reader." Maybe she's a good mom - if so, she's making the right move.

I guess I'd miss her more if she'd been on the air more.

Don't get me wrong: I certainly don't begrudge her the maternity leave. But between pregnancies, sick time and vacations, I'll bet Kim hasn't been on-air for more than half the possible weekday morning newscasts in the last four years.

I don't think the chemistry is there with Tom. Ryan seems a little "different".

Kim, an intelligent, bright, fresh, and beautiful personality is about to give to her very own family the greatest gift a personable talent can produce... herself. Now the giggles, smiles, laughs, of each morning’s dawn will not be ours, but theirs to treasures, and theirs to become the rest of their lives. Our sacrifice is so little to unleash the power of such joy.

I'm sorry, the "Talkback" message board is at WNEP.com. This site is for people who actually KNOW Kim Supon. She's giving Ch. 16 the greatest gift: she's hitting the road.

That post appeared verbatim on TB16 online the same time it was submitted here. Obviously a 16 insider in love with flowery grammar. And pierogies.

Any candidates?

What has bothered my for AGES about WNEP?

1/Their pretense WNEP is a "news" Station when, in fact, they sell SIZZLE. (Listen to their male audio announcer previewing the news shows with his retouched voice!)

2/Many of WNEP news staff has exuded arrogance and giddyness because they assume they are untouchable and the best news locally.

3/Kim Supon has carried on like she is the Queen of Sheba for too long.
