Enjoooooooooooooy! Enjoy!

What do you know, Manny Gordon is still alive and kicking. Those of you who watched WNEP back in the day probably remember his distinctive "Enjoooooooooooy! Enjoy! The great outdoors!" saying. Next to Miss Judy, I'd say Manny was probably the best-known face on WNEP.

Earlier this year, The Times-Tribune did a special feature on everybody's favorite district forester.

A bit of trivia - it was WARM's Harry West who began Manny's journey as a media darling, then WNEP hopped on it, realizing the guy could do them a world of good. It's like I said elsewhere; if there is anything worthy of attention in this market, WNEP is on it. Just one of the many "secrets" of their success.

Quite simply one of the nicest, gentlest, most caring men I've ever met. Will Rogers? Heck, Manny never met a person he didn't like.

Everyone has their deep, dark secrets, the things no one else is supposed to know: Mark Foley--Ted Haggard--even Manny Gordon.

Manny first came to prominence as District Forrester, and especially with his Christmastime recipe for a mysterious liquid that would keep your tree greener longer.

I don't know how to say this, and I hope I don't ruin Christmas for countless children everywhere, but it doesn't work. Over the years WNEP quietly stopped promoting it and distributing the recipe. It's a coverup!

I can keep silent no longer. The conspiracy must come to an end.

And that's the worst thing I can say about Manny Gordon. Happy Holidays, old friend--and many more.

Actually Manny's thing did work. My parents tree would have growth on it when it was taken out of the house in mid-late January. They stopped the formula because it was too dangerous for the station to encourage viewers to mix chemicals.

Does anyone even know who the present district forester is? Name? Face?

The magic potion was used by EVERYONE, as I remember it. No good, eh? Not at all surprised, but maybe the thinking then was that it did. Only ingredients I recall were chlorine bleach and white corn syrup.

Manny is a very kind man with a great personality. He really "enjoys, enjoys" meeting with the public and always gives a big smile to all and takes time for everyone. He's truly unique - in the public eye yet not annoyed when approached for small talk or autographs. A man of the people. He deserves all the success he's enjoyed as well as any praise that comes his way. Too bad there aren't more Mannys in the business.

Here is the truth to be told... the liquid was fine. What was killing all of the trees was cutting the trunk "at an angle".

Trees across the Valley with a Heart kept falling over.... and out of their stands in the middle of the night. That was the cause of death for many a fine tree, and not Manny's potion.

By the time WNEP~TV told people to compensate for the uneven trunks, it was just too late. The lawyers got involved, and the promos were pulled before anyone else got hurt, trees included.

Can anyone verify this? Sorry, but my sorry butt has been around a long time in the broadcasting biz hereabouts, and I never heard this one before. My suspicion is that it's as bogus as the "recipe" itself.

I still use the recipe and it seems to work, just a pain in the a$$ to keep mixing because the tree really sucks it up if the house is warm.

2 QT's of water
1/2 bottle Karo white corn syrup
scoop or 2 of Mircle-Gro
tablespoon or 2 of bleach

Why not check with that garden guy from K-Mart I think? He has a radio show somewhere, WILK? I forget his name. He's the guy who's always mixing chewing tobacco juice and pee and soap and blah blah blah.

That would be Jerry Baker, who bills himself as America's Master Gardener.

Feeding a live tree really works. I had a tree sprout new growth in the house. I put it in the garage after the holidays were over, kept feeding it, and it continued to grow well into Spring. I tried to plant it, but it couldn't take root. Don't knock it until you try it.

to the 11:51am poster...
don't know if you were being sarcastic and thinking that I messed up the call letters of the two stations I use to work for...
so I'll explain it...

WYRE = WYOU + WBRE...

It's what some of us called the stations right after the merger first happened and how I still refer to what is going on there...
sort of like calling it Ch 50... (28 + 22 = 50).

Dmoz.

I worked on South Franklin for years and never heard anyone refer to the stations as WYRE.

Come to think of it, I only occasionally heard to them referred to as "Channel 50."

Most often the operation was called "This
$%#&@% place."

Yep, that would be me, me being sarcastic. WYRE? Please, as someone who spent serious time in that building post-Nexstar, I can assure you that NO ONE EVER called it WYRE. NEVER. Nice try. Failed, but nice.

I never said everyone called the stations WYRE...
I said 'some of us' called it that...
And I still do refer to the station that way when talking to people who still work there...

Just because you never heard something, does not mean it did not happen...

You can call it whatever you want... Most of the time I enjoyed working at WYRE... mainly for the people that were/are there...

well 2:33... you made your point... 'some serious years'...hmmm..
I guess the 5 years total I spent at WYOU and WBRE (WYOU pre-merger, WBRE post merger) was all just slapstick hi-jinks and fun fun fun...
Again... just because you never heard something, does not mean it is not true...
There were several staffers there who refered to the place as WYRE and Ch 50 both pre and post merger...
And as I stated, I still refer to both station as WYRE and I've been out of the place 5 years come January...
but back to the original subject of this thread...
Manny Gordan was a good man even if his secret potion turned trees into mutants that ate children...
