Former TL columnist now hosting at WILK
Steve Corbett, a former, sometimes-controversial, and always bearded columnist at the Times Leader, is now a morning talk show host at WILK. He left the TL in 2002 for unknown reasons, and spent the past few years working at a California newspaper.
Corbett recently returned to Wilkes-Barre, because, as he puts it, "I want to be Irish again. I want real Italian food. I want polka music on my public television station." A poster on NEPA Media claims Corbett has no intentions of returning to the TL.

To me, Corbett is alot like "Pulp Fiction." Entertaining enough (and I cannot look away), but I feel as if I need a shower when it's over.
Who's he?
Not even as good as Pulp Fiction. He was about the most worthless "columnist" the Valley has seen. He had his moment of fame with Wolseiffer and Michael Jackson. I'd bet he's gone from California because, oh I don't know...he sucks?
Maybe WILK will drop Sean Hannitty and due local 3 to 6 pm! One can hope....
Corbett, should he replace Hannity, will not bring yet another ultra-conservative voice to our airwaves - thank God. Most radio talk show hosts, especially locals, blow with the wind, and the few that exist hereabouts are no different. "Conservatives of convenience" describes them best.
BTW, is it the angle of the sign, or did his "best bud" spell his name wrong? Corbett is one hell of a writer, perhaps even gifted, it's just that I was never sure you could believe what he was saying.
Talk radio's a better gig for Corbett than the daily newspaper biz.
All things considered he was a decent writer with an annoying taste for blue-collar cliches and an arrogant insistence on including details of his personal life in a self-important way. But I mostly remember him as being part of a pompous troika with Allison Walzer and Mark Contreras who too often believed that they were the story more than the people and events the TL covered. All in all, NE Pa. newspapering is better off without them.
In the end, Corbett did not give up his California newspaper gig by his own choosing. When new media owners (Lee Enterprises) looked at his salary they said "Enough!" But he has now embraced (W-B) what he recently publically rejected. Salesmanship, opportunism and self-importance are all trademarks of a good entertainer. Steve's gift of (very loud) gab should carry him and his ratings.
