Joke's on you?

Taken from Andy Palumbo's "April Fool!" blog post at WNEP...

Don't get too comfy, you might get hired as their newest news director!

(For those who don't get the joke, Palumbo worked for WYOU in the early 1990s.)

"Where are they now?" will return next week.

I daresay he deserve's better than wyou but he would excel as its news director. Now that Frank is gone the door is open to weed out the other problems there.

Would he make a good ND? Yes, I believe he would. Would I want him to my ND? No, no, not really.

And for the misinformed, Frank is NOT GONE, he is still in his office most every day. He is serving as a consultant, whatever the hell that means. If he should prevail in the primary, which seems unlikely, he will then be gone. If his bid fails, he will then reassume his duties as WYOU's ND. Prevailing wisdom says this isn't the last you'll hear from him politicallly. The man knows how to set the table, this is just the beginning.

Andy talks so much about WYOU, you get the idea he wishes he was still there.

I worked with Andy both in radio and television and I will tell you he is one of the best in this industry. If there was one story I had to have because my job depended on it, Andy would be assigned. He has paid his dues and deserves the credit, not this gutless bashing by people who don't have the stones to at least sign their names.

Andy is probably one of the most grounded people in this market (David DeCosmo also comes to mind). He's more of a substance over style guy, if you ask me, and that's a real gift to have in a newsroom.

Andy Palumbo is not a reporter who will turn exclusives, but he's a solid anchor and producer and even does a good job on the assignment desk. Flashy? No. Consistent and dedicated? Yes.

Mark and Howard:

Thank you for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated.

There was no need to remove the earlier negative comment. I've been around long enough to realize that not everyone likes me. That's okay. It comes with the territory.

I also realize that there are people I may have offended along the way, especially when I was younger. There are some I wish I had treated differently. We all make mistakes. I've made more than my share.

I'm just trying to be a better person. My name is Earl.

I removed the comment because, in retrospect, it was mean spirited. Criticism is fine and dandy, but name-calling isn't.

If people think Andy Palumbo has a big ego, so be it. But let's leave the douchebag comments out of it.

Andy, That nasty person most likely suffers from low self-esteem. You shouldn't dignify them with a response but what you said was so, well, so Andy. I can't believe HB allowed the comment to be viewed. I sent a comment once about Frank Andrew's drinking and it didn't appear- and that was not mean-spirited just factual. You are great at what you do. Your secret admirer.

I agree about Andy...but David Decosmo? I think it's time he retires, he doesn't believe in live shots. Don't understand it because he is decent at them! I guess it's hard for him to accept that the business changes as technology advances. David is grounded in old school thought not necessarily in the persona he portrays.

Helluva blog too I might add, Andy. Especially after you plugged mine!

Not bad for a kid from Throop, "The Gateway to Dickson City"

For the record, the person who posted that "douchebag" comment e-mailed me this morning, and I have invited that person to repost their comment, if they choose.

Because I have no way of identifying who posts comments here, I run into a sticky predicament. How do I filter out the senseless bashing from the legit criticism? I zap submitted comments because if they sound like nothing but senseless bashing, but sometimes, well-meaning people get a little hot when they type. The "douchebag" comment about Palumbo was one of those comments.

This is why I continually ask that anyone who comments keeps their remarks civil. I don't like repeating myself, but I guess I have to. You're welcome to criticize anyone you want on this blog, but keep the "douchebag" and other similar snipes out of it.

Palumbo, "It's all lies!, lies I tell you." I would work with Andy anywhere, wheather it be the #1 station in the market or the # 5000 station. With Andy, "what you see is what you get." He tells it like it is, by the way this is what makes a good reporter good....telling it like it IS." Good work Andy.
