Giangacomo promoted
Paola Giangacomo has been promoted to 11 p.m. anchor at WNEP. Marisa Burke has stepped down from the evening newscast to focus on producing the 6 p.m. newscast, which she will still co-anchor, according to station webmaster Mark Sowers.
Given how Giangacomo has become one of WNEP's most-recognized anchors, the promotion seemed inevitable. Should Burke leave WNEP, her replacement on the 6 p.m. seems obvious.

is this a circuitous way of demoting an older anchor?
Howard,
What makes you think Marisa would ever leave WNEP---and more important, what makes you think Paola will stay?
I'm thinkin' you know less and less about this business....
Never did I say Burke WILL leave, or that Giangacomo WILL stay. I was posing a hypothetical, which seems to have cleared your head by about ten feet.
Seems like the usual next step with Burke before she is asked to leave. Remember what they did to Tim Carlson?
As I understand, Karlson left his anchor job due to health reasons. He's still at WNEP, but he's working in the sales department now.
Did anyone ever think that maybe she WANTED that change? YOU try working until 11:30 or later every night for that long, and then tell me you wouldn't want to be home with your family. Sheesh.
I'm sorry, Marisa has the "mean lady principal" affectation. I don't know or remember if she was always like that. I don't think she'd get the job walking in today.
Paola? Cuter in person. The camera and/or the lights at 16 do her no favors. And maybe it was just me but I saw her on a tease, I think yesterday, and she looked as if she'd been crying.
It's unusual at most stations for the woman on a male/female anchor team to be the stronger, but Marisa Burke is the take charge anchor at WNEP. No offense to Mike Lewis. Marisa really sells the stories she reads, but also can leave some people thinking she is that mean principal.
If she's now producer of the 6pm news, what's the person who had that job doing? Is the New York Times forcing WNEP to cut staff because of problems in the newspaper industry?
As for how Paola looks, WNEP must have eliminated its Lighting Director. Shadows are all over the place on the set. It's also obvious lights frequently aren't turned on when reporters appear from the newsroom.
To answer one of the questions reports are is that the 6pm FEMALE producer was fired. Reason:How can I put this? Maybe this way.
A MALE co worker was suspended for a week the same week she was left go.
To the 11:35 p.m. posting...
what is the person had the job (6:00 producer) doing?
The answer..looking for a job! She was fired and a senior married director was suspended---something about inappropriate relationship discovered through the company e-mail system.
A little hanky panky? Now why don't we hear more about THIS on this site? Give the people what they want!
