Times Leader boss to buy newspaper?

The Wilkes-Barre newspaper war keeps getting more interesting! The Times Leader quotes an anonymous source as saying publisher Pat McHugh has submitted a bid to buy the TL, likely to keep it out of the hands of Times-Shamrock. The newspaper article says McHugh is either putting up his own money, or trying to drum up support.

This will certainly put Times-Shamrock in an interesting situation. It's obvious that the Lynett family wants to go after the newspaper that spawned the competing (Shamrock-owned) Citizens' Voice, but could a last-minute deal from McHugh complicate matters?

From your mouth to God's ear. It would be in the best interest of all living in NE PA if the Lynetts were denied the purchase of The T-L. Their stranglehold on the flow of news in this corner of the state should scare us all.

Don't worry...my guess is theirs wasn't the high bid...by any stretch of the imagination.

I wouldn't mind the stranglehold as much if it weren't such a shoddy product. Ever read through a story that reads like it stopped just because they ran out of room? Ever see a story in their paper that lists a jump to another page and you flip to it and it isn't there? Ever read a story in their paper that just ends in mid-sentence? Anyone remember the story the day after election that had the guy both winning AND losing in the same story? And who can forget the time President Clifton was vacationing on Martha's Vineyard? That's what you get with no competition. That and confiscatory advertising rates.
