Andrews wins primary

Frank Andrews is one step closer to Harrisburg. The former WYOU anchorman got the win in a five-way Democratic primary race for 113th district state representative. I can't say I'm surprised. Andrews' tenure at WNEP and WYOU gave him the name recognition he needed. And the 113th district has the perfect demographics: really old Democrats who still watch WYOU.

Now that the primary is out of the way, I think it will be interesting to see where Andrews really stands on the issues. We'll find out as November draws closer. And if you're keeping record, Andrews will face Republican primary winner Matthew Burke in that election. Burke who? Hey, you got me.

Also interesting was how each station covered this race. I'm surprised WYOU and WNEP didn't even mention that Andrews used to work for them (unless I missed something). Is it really important to mention that? In the interest of full disclosure, I say yes.

That's the key q: "Where does he stand on the issues." Nobody seems to know.

If people knew the real Frank Andrews he would have been at the bottom of the results looking up. It will be interesting to see how often a man, who missed countless days of work at WNEP and WYOU, shows up in Harrisburg if he wins the general election. I'll surely be tracking how many votes he misses in Harrisburg if he happens to claim the seat. I still can't believe his opponents didn't bring up his personal life during the campaign. Yes it's his personal life, but it also shows the lack of character he has along with the fact he's a major hypocrite.

I almost choked on my breakfast when I woke this morning and found out he won. But as I read the comments here, I agree with 8:34 AM poster. The "real" phony, hypocritical, back-stabbing Frank will come out during the general election run. I have reached a decision though: I hope he does win so that "good-for-nothing" skank in the local TV business is finally gone. Here is an interesting question: Will he continue as a "consultant" at 'YOU? His opponent should hound NEXSTAR management about that. It's unethical and wrong!! Oh, well: DING, DONG THE USELESS DORK IS ALMOST GONE!!!!!!!

Oh My God- what is this world coming to? What were the voters thinking? He is a weasel of a man. I can only be comforted by the fact that what comes around goes around -he'll get his someday.

I say no. When CNN reports something that concerns a Time Warner company, they report that fact as a full disclosure matter and this is appropriate.

However: In this local political race, WNEP and WYOU could possibly be seen as endorsing FAS (no, not Sinatra) by mentioning that he worked for them and the other side could cry "foul."

I think they were wise to avoid the employment disclosure in this case.

Okay, from someone on the outside looking in, I'm sick of hearing all these negative comments with no supported facts. People I know who worked with Frank always had a high opinion of him. Yes, he had a drinking problem, but supposedly he's recovering. If you know otherwise, state something factual or keep your comments to yourself. Now, don't go flaming me because you're irritated, present something factual.

Yes he is a weasel, yes he is a sanctimonious fraud, and more than all of that is he is a product of the WNEP promo machine that convinced everyone that Frank loves us and we should love him equally. This now prevents any of his opponents or anyone else from raising any part of his past lest it be viewed as character assassination. How dare anyone say anything bad about Frank Andrews.

Frank can shovel it with the best of them, and no skill is better for a politician that being able to fake sincerity.

Very interesting observation, and it's hard to argue with it. All I'd add is that he created the "promo machine" that for decades pedaled that smarmy "WNEP Is A Family" bulls**t to the generally good people to our corner of PA.

To the 1:14 p.m. post...
For the 100th time, it's not his alcoholism that people are refering to. It's his addictive personality and ego and power-mongering ways. He is also all sweet and nice and your best friend to your face, but will lie, cheat and hurt you behind your back to get what he needs. You admit you're on the outside, and like so many people like you, you are easliy fooled by the face you know. But he is a man you have absolutely no idea who he is or what he stands for. Sure, he knows the attention-grabbing sound bites "for change" and how politicians should drive Fords Escorts, but if he has to change that position for his own well being, he would be the first to do behind the voters backs in the middle of the night. Hypocrite is the only word for FAS. He ruined WYOU and many high-profile people's lives there...and was fired from WNEP. He missed countless days of work while others covered for him and blamed his absences on everything from car accidents to water heaters blowing up to his family, especially his wife's mental health (which he no doubt drove her to) and where is his wife now? He divorced her a few months ago after 30 years and five kids. He has an inappropriate relationship with a 20-something reporter he said he was trying to help in the business and that relationship led to turmoil at WYOU because she was getting perks that senior staffers had never even heard of. I could go on and on, but enough said. The depths of his character flaws are endless. You will never know.

I can't believe that you people have nothing better to do in your lives. Maybe you all have skeletons in your closet and are just trying to point the finger at someone else. Worry about yourselves.

In response to the person with the 3:44 P.M. post. I do have skeletons in my closet, the only difference is I am not running for political office and I don't put up this "Holier Than Thou" image. I've been personally lied to by Frank. I know firsthand what a poor human being he is. If he can't get his fat behind out of bed to come into work at a newsroom in Moosic or Wilkes-Barre, do you think he'll have the ambition to go to Harrisburg for scheduled votes? I'm sure he'll have some excuse like an ingrown toenail or something.

We are worrying about ourselves. The ethics and character of a person who would represent us is entirely our business.

It's about time we demand our elected officials have character. If an elected official has skeletons in his or her closet, they become fodder for bribery. If someone is of poor character, they can be bought.

If Mr. Andrews has character flaws, they need to be exposed and considered before he touches cent one of public funds.

You might not care where your money goes. I care where mine goes. Apparently, given the incumbent losses this election, quite a few people do.

What, no comments on this blog about the "exclusive" crime story that Andy M. inserted himself into, becoming part of the story himself?
Congratulations, Andy, on getting the cops to hand you a REALLY BIG story (as Ed Sullivan would have said) and then sticking the mic in the perps' faces.

I can't believe that you people have nothing better to do in your lives.

And your rich, full, and productive life affords you plenty of time to come here and make sure we are behaving. I cannot thank you enough for keeping an eye on us.

Andy didn't insert himself, he created the entire thing. Butler Township is his backyard. This sweeps piece, albeit legit, was contrived. This is typical "creating" news, rather than "reporting" news. While not without precedent, it is rather shameless. Worse yet, it'll do nothing for WBRE's bottom-dwelling numbers. Another marvelous Nexstar move. Don't blame those who labor in the trenches, blame those who drink the punch(or Kool-Aid), if you prefer.

What like 16 never inserted itself into a story before??? Give me a break...the bottom line here is someone who was trying to find underaged girls on line is busted. It is just a local version of the Dateline stories...and serves a much better purpose than having people check behind the frig for a summer fire...

There's no doubt... Mehalshick can kick any reporter's ass to the curb in this market. Good enterprising and hard work on his part. Whether it was a copy of Dateline or not, it still had me interested. It's better than swallowing all the other bullshit.

In regards to Frank's stand on "issues"... just see how important they are to him... go to his website and click on "issues." You'll get a good laugh. And people voted for him. Disgusting.

Click on "issues" and you get, "Coming Soon!"

Wow.

He didn't even wet his finger and stick it in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.

Politics, media, used car sales, three fields that all rely on the same thing...the ability to bullshit.
